Berlin weather is continental and typical of the type one can expect to find in North-Eastern Europe. In other words, weather in Berlin during the long winter season can be bitterly cold with temperatures regularly falling bellow freezing point with frost and snow making equally frequent appearances.
Despite the cold blanket that covers the city during winter often hovering around the area for weeks on end, summers can be equally hot, with long days and many sunny spells. Particularly during the months of July and August, Berlin weather takes a turn for the better, with temperatures rising considerably, usually exceeding the 30°C mark, forcing local residents and tourists alike to head for the lakes and forests in the West of Berlin in search of ways of cooling down. A word of warning though: if you are planning on visiting Germany’s capital during the summer break, you should be aware that this time of the year brings with it unpredictable changes with clouds covering the sun within minutes, quickly followed by rain. After all the season between June and August is by far the wettest in Berlin, the driest being the time between October and February. So pack along some warm clothes and make sure your umbrella is always handy.
Although late in making its appearance, spring in Berlin is picture-perfect beautiful while during the months of autumn the combination of sunshine and bright foliage throw abundant dashes of charm to the German capital’s many splendours, allowing outdoors cafes to remain open for business as late the end of October.
Snow fall is most likely to occur between the months of December and March, although whatever little snow eventually covers the ground in its white blanket rarely extends its welcome, quickly melting away into oblivion.
